Are You Living in a Modern Family?

There has been no shortage of high-profile media coverage for ABC’s Modern Family.  From multiple Emmy awards, to a recent cover of Entertainment Weekly, the show is comedic gold for Americans across the country. As avid pop culture junkies with the ability to poll the public at will, we wondered: how many Americans are living in a “modern family?”

Wakefield Research surveyed 1,000 American Millennials to look into the future of family dynamics. Apparently, the Pritchett-Dunphy-Delgato-Tucker clan is the real deal.

As it turns out, Jay and Gloria are in good company as more than 1 in 3 (38%) Millennials have a friend or family member who remarried someone significantly younger than them.

Many real modern families also have their own Mitch and Cam – a quarter (25%) of Millennials have gay or lesbian relatives. We are just not sure how many of these couples do Mitch and Cam’s infamous “sports-guy chest bump”.

Nearly 2 in 3 (65%) know a Manny, a child who is wise beyond their years, and 44% have a Manny in their own family.

Although most families do not accidentally steal bikes, lose a car off a cliff, “moon land” each other, or lose a baby, the future of family is indeed looking very “modern.”
